Tóm tắt

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of newly diagnosed prediabetes and type 2 diabetes among people aged 40 years or above in Thai Nguyen City. Subjects and methods: A survey of approximately 510 adults over the age of 40 years was conducted in Thai Nguyen City, with the sample size being estimated according to descriptive epidemiological studies. Levels of fasting blood glucose (G0) and at 2 hours during an oral glucose tolerance test (G2) together with HbA1c concentrations were measured. Results: The prevalence of pre-diabetes ascertained using glucose levels at G0 and G2, and HbA1c concentrations was 40%, 36.7% and 38.6%, respectively. The corresponding values for type 2 diabetes were 4.5%, 12.8% and 2.7%, respectively. Overall, the respective prevalence of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes was 40% and 12.8%. Conclusion: In Thai Nguyen City, individuals aged over 40 years had a higher prevalence of pre-diabetes than that of type 2 diabetes. Of three criteria used, the highest data on prediabetes was based on the G0 criterion while the analogous data on type 2 diabetes (T2DM) was obtained from the G2 threshold.
