Introduction: Home care needs are growing rapidly, a phenomenon that parallels the aging of Vietnamese population and the higher levels of disability among the elderly. The aims of this study were to determine the situation and demands of using home healthcare services and find out the correlated factors associated with this issue among the elderly living in Thuy Bieu Ward, Hue City, Vietnam. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 425 elderly in 2018, and the information was collected by using the structured questionnaire. Results: The percentage of using home healthcare services for the elderly was 3.1%. There was above 50% of the elderly who used home healthcare services assessed the service quality was good or very good. The demands of using home healthcare services for the elderly was 28.7%; the average cost which the elderly could spend on home healthcare services every month was approximately 530.000Vnd (~23.28 USD). The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that there was an association between the proportion of using home healthcare services and the physical disability conditions; there were the relationships between demands of using home healthcare for the elderly and marital status, household economy, acute illnesses, chronic diseases, and number of people who had used home healthcare services. Conclusions: The number of elderly using health care services at home was very low. Therefore, government and medical providers should popularize, enhance the service’s quality and offer a suitable cost as a whole.
