Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disorder of glucose metabolism, widespread and rapidly developing worldwide. Diabetes cares roles a big part in the effectiveness of treatment, and most activities are done by the patients themselves and their relatives. Objective of this study was found out the status of self- management of diabetes in patients with T2DM. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study that was carried out on 116 patients treated at the Hanoi Medical University Hospital, diagnosed with T2DM at least three months, able to take care of themselves. Patients were assessed through  the Summary  of  Diabetes  Self-Care Activities (SDSCA). Results: The average score of diabetes self-management is 3,42 ± 1,13. Patients performed quite well in diet (56.9%), adherence to prescribed medication (75%). Activities of physical exercise, blood sugar monitoring, and foot care were not performed well with the respective rates of 19%, 3,4%, and 3,4%. Conclusion: The results show that the level of compliance with self-care behaviors in patients is not high, which is necessary to increase Diabetes self- management Education and regularly evaluate the effectiveness of self-care behaviors care.
