Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is increasing rapidly in the world as well as in Vietnam. Dangerous diabetes seriously affects physical health and reduces quality of life (HRQoL) in patients. Objectives: (1) Describe the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes before the COVID-19 pandemic in rural and urban areas, Da Nang City in 2019. (2) Identify some related factors related to HRQoL of patients with type 2 diabetes in the study area. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed on 216 outpatients in rural areas and 204 patients in urban areas, Da Nang city. Using the EuroQoL-5 dimension-3 level (EQ-5D-3L) and EQ-VAS questionnaires to assess the HRQoL. Result: Overall average CLCS score according to EQ-5D-3L at primary health care level (0.878±1,063). In which, the mean score of HRQoL in rural area (0.877±0.105) has no difference with urban area (0.878±0.107). According to the current state of health, the quality of life according to EQ-VAS in Urban area (81.87 ± 8.71) is better than in Rural area (77.25±13.61) with p<0.05. Age ≥ 60, male, BMI ≥ 23kg/m2, time to detect diabetes >10 years is associated with reduction in HRQoL in patients; Using insulin for treatment is a protective factor that increases HRQoL in patients with (p<0.05). Conclusion: The HRQoL score according to EQ-5D-3L of patients treated at primary health care level before the COVID-19 pandemic is quite good and there is no difference between urban and rural areas; visual assessment at the time of study the HRQoL level according to EQ-VAS is better in urban areas than in rural areas. Factors such as age ≥ 60, male, BMI ≥ 23 kg/m2, time of diabetes detection >10 years and insulin use were recorded as the factors associated with HRQoL in study subjects.
