Abstract

Background: When complications appear in the foot, the patient will have difficulty in exercising. That has a great influence on the treatment of diabetes patients. Patients who want to take care of themselves must first have the right knowledge. In addition, the patient’s perceptions and attitudes will also affect their daily self-care behavior. The right care behavior will bring the patient a good health and vice versa the wrong care behavior can bring the patient a poor health condition. Objectives: 1) Survey on knowledge, attitude and behavior about self-care of the foot of patients with type 2 diabetes 2) Exploring the relationship between knowledge, attitude and behavior about self-care of foot of type 2 diabetes patients. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study, the study was conducted on 400 patients with type 2 diabetes who came for examination and treatment at Hoan My Cuu Long General Hospital from March 2022 to September 2022. Results: There are 61.5% female, 51.8% age ≥ 60, 57% diabetes duration ≥ 5 years, 71.2% living mainly in rural areas, with 13.5% illiterate and mainly manual labor accounts for 55.2%. The correct knowledge, attitude, and behavior about self-care of foot of patients are: 23.5%, 55.7% and 15%, respectively. Patients with right knowledge about foot care have the right behavior increased by 5.14 times; patients with the right attitude have the right behavior increased 9.1 times; Patients with right knowledge have the right attitude increased by 11.5 times. Conclusion: It is necessary to improve the ability to take care of the foot by improving knowledge and practice for type 2 diabetes patients and health education is one of the important method.
