Abstract

A descriptive study on 100 postpartum mothers with children being treated at the Pediatric ICU and Pediatrics Department, Tien Giang Provincial General Hospital from March 2022 to September 2022. Objective: To determine the percentage of mothers who have the correct knowledge about breastfeeding after giving birth and determine the factors related to the knowledge about breastfeeding of mothers after giving birth. Results: The general   correct   knowledge of breastfeeding mothers after giving birth was 60%. The percentage of mothers who have correct knowledge about the first breastfeeding should breastfeed their babies after birth is 38%. There are 29% of mothers have correct knowledge about weaning time for babies. The percentage of mothers who know not to give their babies extra water in the first 4 – 6 months is 53%. There are 87% of mothers know about the correct position of the baby when breastfeeding. The percentage of mothers who have correct knowledge about the benefits of colostrum is 67%. And 74% of mothers have the right knowledge about the benefits of breastfeeding for mothers. Conclusion: Strengthen communication and education about the benefits and importance of breastfeeding for women of childbearing age who are married, pregnant and in the period of giving birth breastfeeding. Strictly control over aggressive formula milk advertisements that cause confusion and falsify people’s knowledge.
