Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is increasing rapidly worldwide with economic and social burden. Good management, right treatment will reduce the complications of the disease. Objective: To evaluate the current situation of outpatient management of patients with type 2 diabetes at Tien Giang Central General Hospital in 2020-2021. Research Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study with 434 outpatients with diabetes. Result: There are 91.5% of patients with type 2 diabetes treated for more than 1 year; 8.5% were newly diagnosed in 2020. Of the group of people with the disease for more than 1 year, 63.0% went to the hospital for full examination and treatment for 12 months; 94.9% of patients had chronic diseases or associated complications. Complications of hypertension (90.1%), ischemic heart disease (67.5%), eye complications (23.7%), renal complications (17.7%). The patient achieved the goal of fasting blood glucose < 7.2 mmol/l at 55.3%; HbA1C < 7% is 47.2%. Patients on polytherapy were 70.5%, only 29.5% with monotherapy. The rate of patients with type 2 diabetes treated with insulin was 54.6%. Conclusion: Most of the patients with type 2 diabetes had complications or had chronic diseases. Patients with renal complications are more difficult to control blood pressure.
