Abstract

Falls are a common syndrome in the elderly. Every year, about 30% - 40% of people over 65 years old fall, this rate is up to 50% in people over 80 years old [1]. Injuries from falls in the elderly cause loss of function, loss of self-control, and are prone to many serious complications leading to death. The purpose of this study is to determine the risk of falls and detect some related factors in the elderly treated at Tra Vinh Hospital in 2023. The study was conducted on 96 elderly people. When going to Tra Vinh Provincial General Hospital for examination and treatment, the results showed that the rate of elderly people at high risk of falling was up to 36.5%. In addition, the study found a statistically significant association between the risk of falling and the following factors: age group, number of sick and number of medical the patient is taking. The risk of falls is a health issue that needs to be considered in the elderly not only in the community but also in the hospital environment. Relevant units need to pay attention to and offer specific prevention and intervention measures to reduce the rate of falls in the elderly, contributing to improving the quality of life for the elderly.
