Abstract
The cross - sectionalstudy was carried out on patients diagnosed with diabetes to assess ratio of patient with true knowledge and practice on using insulin. Patients were interviewed by questionnaire to research characteristics about demographic, duration of diabetes, duration of using insulin, type of insulin, their knowledge of using insulin. Patients practice insulin technique on a paradigm and be assessed by a checklist. Results: The average age was 60,9 ± 12,7, male/female ratio = 1,1:1, livingareas in urban (62,9%), majority is type 2 diabetes (88,6%), diabestes with more 10 years was 57,1%, duration of using insulin was 61,9%. Insulin injection form 51,4% insulin pen, 48.6% syringe. In the patientgroup injected insulin with a syringe, the percentage of patients with good knowledge is 23.5%; correct practice insulin injection (51,0%). For the group of patients injecting insulin with a pen, the rates were 33.3% and 75.9%. Conclusion: The percentage of patients with correct knowledge of insulin is still low. There is a difference in the proportion of patients with correct injection practices between the two groups injecting with syringes and pens. There is a relationship between knowledge and practice of insulin injection. Patients should be guided to increase knowledge and practice in insulin use.
