Abstract

Objective: To describe the current state of anxiety in patients before thyroid surgery at National Hospital Endocrinology and some related factors. Subjects and research methods: Using cross-sectional descriptive design, selected a lathe sample was 197 patients admitted to National Hospital Endocrinology for thyroid surgery from 4/2022 to 6/2022. Research results: The proportion of patients with anxiety before thyroid surgery accounts for 88.3%. In there 65% of patients are afraid of complications after surgery; 58.4% are afraid of pain after surgery: 46.7% of patients are afraid of not waking up after anesthesia, surgery; 44.2% of patients were afraid of thyroid nodules left after surgery; 41.1% of patients fear death from anesthesia or surgery. Factors related to actual anxiety: waiting time for surgery, number of relatives taking care of during hospital stay. Conclusion: Research shows that 88.3% of patients are anxious before thyroid surgery. The level of anxiety is closely related to a number of factors such as age, education level, marital status, and number of relatives taking care of them at the time. Hospitalization, health insurance, cancer diagnosis, history of previous surgery, comorbid chronic diseases.
