Abstract
Objectives: Describe the clinical, subclinical characteristics and the factors related to foot ulcer in diabetic patients. Subjects and methods: a descriptive, prospective, cross-sectional study on 62 cases of foot ulcers in diabetic patients treated at Hai Duong Provincial General Hospital from August 2022 to June 2023. Results: The average age is 68.77 ± 15.49 years old and patients over 70 years old are majority. 62.9% of hospitalized patients showed severe foot ulcers (Wagner Grade 3, 4, 5) and 91.9% of them had inflammatory symptoms with different degrees. Poor glycemic control with HbA1c > 7% accounted for 62.9% and the average blood glucose at admission was 11.61 ± 5.30 mmol/l. Relating factors such as age, sex, duration of ulceration, duration of diabetes, peripheral arterial disease, peripheral neuropathy, infection, and poor glycemic control are risk factors of foot ulcers. Conclusion: Diabetic foot ulcer is one of the late complications of diabetes, commonly seen in elderly patients with a long diabetic duration, accompanied by various diabetic complications and poor glycemic control.
