Abstract
Introduction: Knowledge and practice of correct insulin injection will help control blood sugar of the patient. Elderly patients may have low knowledge and practice of insulin injection due to the advanced age factor. Objectives of this study: Describe the knowledge and practice of self-injection of insulin of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes. Methodology: Cross-sectional descriptive study. Study on 250 people with diabetes at the National Geriatric Hospital, 2023. Findings: The percentage of patients with knowledge about insulin injection reached 18.8%. Some content with low percentage of patients having knowledge are: Using injection pen 3.2%; Determine the injection site 3.6%; Rotation of injection sites 4.8%; Using a syringe 1 times 10.8%; Preserving insulin being injected 14.4%. The percentage of patients who practiced insulin injection was 27.2%. Some steps with low pass rates are: Sorting needles after using 8.0%; Cleaning the tip of the vial, the tip of the injection pen 13.6%; Taking medicine 16.4%; Needle angle 20.0%. Conclusions: The rate of knowledge and practice of insulin injection is low among patients.
