Abstract
Background and objective: Osteoporosis is a common disease in the elderly. Many studies show that women aged 60 years or more, about 20% osteoporosis and in men the same age on the incidence is about 10%. A study in Vietnam showed that about 20% of women over 60 with osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a silent disease, patients are less interested but progress to serious consequences as fractures, fracture location is common femoral neck and spine. Currently, to diagnose osteoporosis, measurements of bone mineral density measurements by adsorption dual energy x- rays are considered the standard method. This study aims to determine the rate of osteoporosis on the subject to examination and the rate of osteoporosis in women by age group. Methodology: A cross-sectional study. Conducting research on bone mineral density by DEXA method of women aged 40 to measure bone mineral density at the Hue Central Hospital. Osteoporosis was defined by WHO standard. Results: The prevalence of osteoporosis in women 15%, osteopenia 27%, increased rate of osteporosis by age group. In women aged 60 years or more osteoporosis 22,3% and osteoporosis of spine 52,8%. Conclusion: Bone density should be routinely measured in women over the age of 60 to determine osteoporosis.
