Abstract

Objectives: Describe nutritional status and some related factors in thyroid cancer patients in the period before I131 treatment at the National Hospital of Endocrinology in 2022. Subjects and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 270 thyroid cancer patients who had surgery and were about to be treated for I131 at the National Hospital of Endocrinology. Results: The prevalence of malnutrition according to PG SGA was 13.0%, while the rate of malnutrition according to BMI was 12.6%.
The overweight rate according to BMI was 21.9%, and the obesity rate according to BMI was 26.3%. The rate of malnutrition in the group of patients with less than high school education is higher than that of high school or higher; poor/near-poor households are higher than in the other group. The rate of malnutrition in the group of patients who did not exercise was higher than in the group that exercised, and did not learn about nutrition knowledge higher than the group that did; the treatment group was higher than that of the untreated group. Conclusions: The malnutrition rate is low, but is related to education level, poverty, physical inactivity and not seeking for nutritional knowledge.
